Amanda, George and Dubai

Down a little road called Whitehouse, along a gravel drive, you'll come to an immaculately kept rustic barn. As you stroll down the wide ally, you are greeted by soft nickers and the sound of munching hay. There are also two very special gentlemen who call it home, George and Dubai.

This is their story told by their mom, Amanda

George

George is a 18yr old thoroughbred gelding, with no racing history, and stands at 16.3 hands. We found each other July of 2013 at a private barn in Darlington, SC by way of North Carolina. I don't know much about his prior history, he had been showing in the 3ft hunters at local and rated shows.  We did some showing together as well but his favorite things were hunter paces and schooling cross country jumps.

He loved getting out of the ring and was really brave and quiet under saddle, he would jump anything you pointed him at. In the barn he’s usually easy and agreeable, Muffins and Swedish fish (his favorite treats) don’t hurt, they are the way to his heart! I don’t have a favorite between George and Dubi but I have always had a close connection with George, he is the first horse I bought on my own.

In 2019 due to several lameness issues that became unmanageable for him to continue as a riding horse I made the decision to retire him. Even though it’s been a couple years since I’ve ridden him I still get excited to see him every single time and miss him when I can’t. I’m Hoping one day I’ll have a place to keep him at home but for now I plan to make sure he continues to be happy and healthy.

Dubai

About two years after George retired I began the search for my next horse. After trying several and a few failed PPE’s I purchased a 5 yr old Ottb named Finn. Long story short after 6 months of working with him my trainer and I came to the agreement that Finn and I were not a good match so he went back to his previous owner who then offered to let me try a few her other horses.

Dubai had been there for only a week and from the moment she said his name I had a feeling he was meant for me. That was quickly confirmed after my trainer and I rode him. He was and has been perfect for me ever since. Dubai was born in Pennsylvania in 2012. He was tattooed for racing but has no registered starts although His dad had over a million dollars in lifetime earnings.

Prior to owning him he did some eventing and then into dressage. He came up for sale because dressage was not his cup of tea and to this day you can tell he thinks flat work is boring and would really prefer to jump. He loves to jump in fact and he will be showing in the jumper ring this coming spring.

In the barn Dubai has such a fun personality and is super friendly. He really loves attention from everyone and wants to be friends with all the other horses. I was actually reflecting the other day on how lucky I am to have him. In a world where so many things can go wrong, I pretty much got exactly what I wanted in Dubai. he has turned out to be a great partner, he genuinely tries for me and tolerates my amateur moments and mistakes. I think he’s pretty happy with his life too!
